EyamA drama set in Derbyshire in 1665 when plague strikes a village at war with itself. Sam Crane, who recently appeared as Farinelli opposite Mark Rylance in Farinelli and the King, stars as William Mompesson in this new play at the Globe written by Matt Hartley and directed by Adele Thomas. The community face a moral dilemma: they must decide whether to flee and risk spreading the disease, or stay, protect others from the risk, and face the potential of their own slow and painful death. With the exception of Sam Crane and John Paul Connolly, the Eyam company also appears in the Globe's production of Blanche McIntyre's The Winter's Tale.

About Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

This replica of the Shakespeare's 16th century theatre, reconstructed just 200 yards from its original site, is the brainchild of American actor and director Sam Wanamaker. Built in wood and thatch, using techniques from 400 years ago, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre opened in 1996. More about Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
