Family Open Weekend: London Transport Museum Depot ActonThe Family Open Weekend is one of the few occasions when the London Transport Museum Depot in Acton is open to the public and gives families a chance to see some of the 400,000 or so objects stored in the west London depot. Kids can enjoy Toby the Taxi story-telling, miniature railway rides, behind the scenes tours and a timeline of taxis, all for free on the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October 2012. There will also be make-and-take craft workshops for children, heritage vehicle runs - including the chance to have a go on the old Routemaster bus - as well as talks about the history of the black cab and what it takes to get the 'Knowledge'. Children can learn about travel safety with simulator vans and climb aboard the life size Toby the Taxi while parents have a rare opportunity to explore the Museum's treasures which are usually hidden from public view.
