Nearby Festival Brazil

London is in for a summer of favela chic straight from the streets of Salvador with the Brazil Festival taking place in and around the Southbank Centre bringing a huge variety of Brazilian music, art, dance, literature and food to the South Bank. Highlights of the festival include art exhibitions on Ernesto Neto and The New Decor which mark the reopening of The Hayward Gallery, performances by cultural icon Maria Bethania and superstar singer song-writer Gilberto Gil at Royal Festival Hall, as well as street dance show Brazil! Brazil! at the E4 Udderbelly at Southbank Centre. With the festival coinciding with the London Literature Festival, it's the ideal platform for high profile Brazilian writers and poets including Socrates (best known as the captain of the great Brazilian football team of the eighties), Milton Hatoum and Arnaldo Antunes to showcase their work. There are drumming workshops by AfroReggae, Brazilian food to sample, and two Festival Weekends which set out to celebrate all things Brazilian including the cuisine, Latin dancing, football and not forgetting the colourful carnival costume making.About Southbank Centre
The Southbank Centre is a classic example of brutal 60s concrete architecture. Everyone has an opinion (usually negative) on its distinctive design - famous detractors include Prince Charles, who once described it as looking like a "nuclear power station". Yet, if the The West End is the centre of popular culture in London, it is the Southbank Centre that is the centre of true excellence in the arts. More about Southbank Centre
