Festival of NeighbourhoodThis summer, the Southbank Centre is being turned into London's finest neighbourhood - and everyone's invited. Allotments, fruit trees, Thames-view gardens, a beach, a local pub, murals, street parties, flags and family games are all coming to the South Bank in a four-month bonanza that also features a huge array of cultural events. Programme highlights include London Wonderground and the Udderbelly Festival, the UK premiere of lumberjacks-inspired circus show Timber!, the world premiere of ZooNation's Wizards of Oz dance rejig, Groove On Down The Road, Yoko Ono's Meltdown, London Literature Festival and the Hayward Gallery's Alternative Guide to the Universe. While Neighbourhood gets underway on the opening May bank holiday (4th-6th) with a community singing celebration in Chorus, the outdoor festival landscape does not open until 1st June. There will be themed weekends throughout the summer - from a celebration of street culture to a village fair - and a range of markets, restaurants, bars and cafes popping up throughout the entire duration (whether you're after pie and mash or a fresh watermelon juice or artisan coffee). Most intriguing is the construction of Beanotown in the undercroft of the Queen Elizabeth Hall - an imaginary neighbourhood (filled with wannabe Dennis the Menaces) paying homage to The Beano magazine, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. Check www.southbankcentre.co.uk/neighbourhood for more details.

About Southbank Centre

London's hub of cultural arts, The Southbank Centre announced in March 2013 that it's set for a £100 million revamp that will see the 1960s design finally move into the 21st century with a proposal that includes a floating glass pavilion, two more roof gardens, a space for riverside arts and a large pedestrian area.
