Festival of the WorldInspired by the cultural vision of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the Festival of the World has got it all. From the UK's largest ever poetry festival to an urban beach with a twist, the Southbank Centre will be transformed to show visitors how art can transform lives. Running throughout the summer as London celebrates the 2012 Olympics, the festival is based around Coubertin, a founder of the modern Olympic movement, and his belief that the arts could inspire young people in a manner similar to how sport can. The combination of sport and art is a theme common in many festivals this summer and, with a packed out programme of events at Southbank, you'll be hard pressed not to find something to enjoy here.

About Southbank Centre

London's hub of cultural arts, The Southbank Centre announced in March 2013 that it's set for a £100 million revamp that will see the 1960s design finally move into the 21st century with a proposal that includes a floating glass pavilion, two more roof gardens, a space for riverside arts and a large pedestrian area.
