Swedish singer Karin Dreijer Andersson, one half of brother-sister electronic duo The Knife and Royksopp collaborator, won rave reviews with her debut album as Fever Ray, which she showcases alongside a spectacular late summer lightshow at the Brixton Academy. Far from sharing the same dance floor-ability of The Knife's work, Fever Ray is a more enchanting, mysterious, uncomfortable and yet beautiful experience for the ears. The creepily doleful song Keep the Streets Empty for Me is a musical masterpiece of unsettling grandeur while upbeat single When I Grow Up has been an underground hit since its release last year. "The sound invokes the lost hinterlands of 80s pop," claims The Guardian, which gave the singer's debut album five stars for its "sense of daring and ambition". NME are also fans, describing the work as "magnetic and rewarding, addictively sublime and slow-burning". London gigs last year at the Empire and Royal Festival Hall saw Andersson shroud herself in a hooded cape while, metaphorically, letting her mesmerising voice to the talking alongside the myriad lasers, lamps and spotlights at play.
