Having encountered the work of abstract painters when he moved to New York in 1966, Frank Bowling became increasingly interested in the effects that could be created by paint. This led to his experimentation with poured paintings. Pouring paint directly onto the canvas, sometimes from as high as two metres, Bowling discovered this innovative style that saw the paint freefall onto the canvas and, as a result, boasted a unique action painting. Part of Tate's BP British Art Displays, this exhibition displays a range of the Guyana-born artist's work.
