American playwright Sam Shepard's Fool for Love is brought to Riverside Studios with an intriguing casting which pits Sadie Frost opposite the musician Carl Barat as the battling lovers at a Mojave Desert motel. Stuntman Eddie travels more than 2,000 miles to visit May, his on-and-off love for 15 years, in a seedy motel room but senses something is afoot. The pair's tragic love-hate relationship plays out over an intense and cathartic 90 minutes in this bleak but savagely funny drama. Frost garnered positive reviews when she made her West End debut in last year's Touched at the Trafalgar Studios and this will be another opportunity for the tabloid figure best-known as Jude Law's former wife to make her mark again. But even more exciting is a stage debut for former Libertines frontman Barat tackling the role of Frost's volatile lover. The slight Barat is far cry from the New Zealand movie hunk Martin Henderson, who starred alongside Juliette Lewis when the play was last revived in London, back in 2006 at the Apollo Theatre, but it could well prove a piece of inspired casting.
