Frankie Boyle: I'd Happily Punch Every One Of You In The FaceAs you can see from the provocative title of his stand-up show, Frankie Boyle is not the most compassionate of men. When the Scots stand-up recently announced he was leaving the BBC's popular Mock The Week programme, it was widely thought it was so he could spend more time with his family in Glasgow. In reality, it was because Boyle had had enough at being lambasted by the corporation for his near-the-knuckle acerbic humour, much of which was still too risqué to make the DVD out-takes of the show. Ironically, it was a silly jibe about swimmer Rebecca Adlington's spoon face that got the Scot in hot water - a joke far less caustic than the vast majority of his splenetic material. An autobiography entitled My Shit Life So Far further highlights Boyle's dour shock-jock mentality: it seems that he can only be supremely disparaging about everything and anything. All this bodes well for Boyle's forthcoming UK Tour, which drops in to the Hammersmith Apollo this summer for four dates before returning later in the year for a November run. A word of advice: stay clear of the front row or you might find yourself with a bloodied nose.

About Hammersmith Apollo

Once London's largest all-seater venue, the Hammersmith Apollo has a 3,600 capacity for seated shows and a 5,000 capacity for standing-room-only gigs. It was renovated in 2002, and now works well as a venue for theatre (hosting a huge variety of shows from Riverdance to Thomas the Tank Engine) as well as rock concerts.
