Henry VIII established Hampton Court as a place of music, dancing and revelry. This festival is focused on reviving that tradition as 22,000 people fill the grounds for one of the most diverse music festivals in the calendar. This year's line-up includes international performers from the worlds of jazz, classical, and pop.
Top of the bill this year is guitar legend Eric Clapton - 'Wonderful Tonight' will sound beautiful as it floats its way across the courtyard at Hampton Court. But the stops have really been pulled out this year, as Eric is joined by Art Garfunkel and the husky voice of coffee-table favourite Tracy Chapman. The Glyndebourne Festival Opera will perform Strauss' Die Fledermaus, whilst Jools Holland weighs in with his perennial big band bonanza, as does Van Morrison with his cheery summertime tunes. The finale will be a dramatic performance of The Four Seasons featuring former BBC Young Musician of the Year, Nicola Benedetti, topped off with a shower of fireworks.
In all, there will be 8 different shows over four weeks, all of them made special by the incredible venue. Henry VIII would have been proud to see that his great palace can still bring so much joy.
