One of America's photographic pioneers, Harry Callahan (1912-1999) is hugely influential yet his work is little known in the UK. Tate Modern's large, free display aims to put that right with works representing all stages of his long career - from black and white works in the 1960s and '70s to colour dye transfers in the 1980s, and to large black and white prints in the 1990s. It's one of three free exhibitions dedicated to iconic US photographers which can be seen at the gallery this spring - where William Eggleston's work is displayed until 11th May, and Robert Mapplethorpe's self-portraits are visible from 5th May 2014.

About Tate Modern

Located along the banks of the River Thames in the former Bankside Power Station, originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1947, the architect of Battersea Power Station, Tate Modern opened to great acclaim in 2000. Since then it has welcomed millions of visitors through its imposing doors. More about Tate Modern
