Havana Rakatan

This show from Sadler's Wells, back after a hit run last year, is pure swinging with all the jazzy trumpeting and soulful rhythms of a live Cuban band setting the pace - even the name Havana Rakatan is evocative of an infectious stream of foot-stomping, body-twisting dances. The men are wearing some pretty loud shirts and there is a hint of West Side Story (you know the bit where they click their fingers down the road) but it all just adds to the happy flamboyance. Choreographer Nilda Guerra has put this show in motion by reliving the story of Cuban dance and music on stage. From its roots in African and Spanish cultures - there's a clever fusion at the beginning - to the full flavour of salsa, rumba and cha-cha-cha, the women delight in their sultry selves and the men are men. It sizzles with Cuban passion and then conjures up a street party in Havana you'd definitely want to be invited to.
