Multi Olivier and BAFTA Award winning Imelda Staunton plays meddlesome socialite turned matchmaker Dolly Levi, taking the title role in a new production of classic Broadway musical Hello, Dolly! This new show at the Adelphi Theatrereunites Imelda with director Dominic Cooke, following their collaboration on the critically acclaimed production of Follies at the National Theatre. as she travels to Yonkers, New York to find a match for the miserly, unmarried 'half-a-millionaire' Horace Vandergelder. But everything changes when she decides that the next match she needs to make is for herself. The "truly joyous show" also reunites Staunton with producers Michael Harrison and David Ian whose Gypsy at the Savoy won two Olivier Awards including Best Actress In A Musical.
About Adelphi Theatre
The Adelphi Theatre is a London institution - an historic venue with a long history of staging upscale musicals. Now a West End stalwart, it was once among the great innovators of London's popular theatre. It was the first theatre to use a sinking stage, a pioneer of gas lighting and the current building is a 1930s temple to progress, all straight lines, chrome and black marble.
