Highgate Choral Society: A Celebratory Concert for the Queen's Diamond JubileeRonald Corp conducts the Highgate Choral Society in this special Diamond Jubilee concert at the Barbican performing a programme which includes the premiere of Corp's This Sceptred Isle. In keeping with its long tradition of singing English music to celebrate national events, Highgate Choral Society presents an evening of coronation choral pieces to honour the Queen's six decades on the throne. They have chosen some very suitable songs including Elgar's Imperial March and Coronation Ode, Walton's Coronation Te Deum and Orb And Sceptre, and Britten's Gloriana, the opera he composed in celebration of the Queen's coronation in 1953. First performed at the Royal Opera House during Coronation Week, Gloriana is due to be staged at the Covent Garden venue in June 2013 under the direction of Richard Jones, the man behind the Anna Nicole Smith opera, to mark its 60th anniversary.

About Barbican Centre

Ugly or not, this multi-faceted performance and arts venue is truly wondrous. Open 363 days a year, it offers the most diverse program of any London venue. More about Barbican Centre
