Hogarth & The Art of NoiseExplore the use of sound in William Hogarth's art as the Foundling Museum stages the first exhibition dedicated to the way the 18th century artist used sound in his art. With the masterpiece, The March of the Guards to Finchley, as its focus, Hogarth & The Art of Noise reveals the artist's innovative use of sound. Including a specially-commissioned immersive soundscape by musician and producer, Martyn Ware, the exhibition reveals how Hogarth used the sounds of London to capture contemporary 18th-century life. Boxing and brothels, breaking and entering are just some of the themes that come up. Complementing the exhibition is a first floor display by contemporary artist, Nicola Bealing, whose paintings have been inspired by 18th century broadside ballads and by Hogarth himself.

About The Foundling Museum

The Foundling Museum is one of London's real hidden treasures. Originally established in 1739 as a hospital which looked after abandoned children, the museum now tells their story. Using oral testimony, original artefacts and photographs, their history is explored and compared to the lives of contemporary children. More about The Foundling Museum
