This is a chance to see pioneering Japanese dance company Miyagi Dance perform 'Honno Sukoshi' (meaning 'Just a little Bit'), a dance piece created by choreographer Osamu Jareo especially for disabled and non-disabled dancers. The highly acclaimed Chickenshed theatre is renowned for its inclusive attitude and its pioneering work in this field so this collaboration is a perfect pairing. This is only the second time the Miyagi Dance company, formed in Japan in 1998, has performed in the UK. Their debut show, 'Asterisk', first seen at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith in 2005 was given a standing ovation. Osamu Jareo says he teaches a 'way of life', concentrating on 'how to get rid of self-consciousness' through the physical techniques taught at his workshops in Japan. In choreographing this show he draws on these ideas to create a dance piece which focuses on the everyday life of one of the company members with Toru Iwashita from Sankaijuku performing an improvised solo.
