The French printmaker, caricaturist, painter, and sculptor, Honore Daumier, described by his contemporary the poet Charles Baudelaire as, "one of the most important men, not just of caricature, but of modern art", is the subject of a solo exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in the autumn of 2013. The leading satircal draughtsman of the left-wing journal, La Caricature, was working during a time of great political and social change in France and the broadly chronological exhibition explores themes of judgement, spectatorship and satire. Paintings, drawings, watercolours, and lithographs reveal Daumier's observations of modern life and stinging attacks on the bourgeoisie.
