Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain - Part OneThis 60-minute show takes us on a whistle stop tour of British history based on Terry Deary's Horrible Histories children's books and the hugely successful CBBC TV series. The Barmy Britain - Part One live stage show presented by the Birmingham Stage Company is a two-hander performed by Benedict Martin and Lauryn Redding who rattle through a Roman Masterchef, and the Vikings invading in a bloody version of Relocation, Relocation interspersed with singalongs and still talking severed heads. "If Michael Gove really wants British schoolchildren to develop an enthusiasm for history, then Deary's books would be a good place to start" says Lyn Gardner in The Guardian. The recommended age is six plus, it's ideally suited to 10-year-olds with a thirst for gory history. A brand new follow up show, Barmy Britain - Part Two, gets its world premiere from 26th September 2013.

About Garrick Theatre

Named after the great 18th century actor-manager David Garrick, whose portrait hangs in the foyer bar, The Garrick is a fantastic piece of late-Victorian kitsch, originally financed by WS Gilbert. The interior is decorated like a Renaissance palace, all cupids and laurels, with hardly a smooth surface visible among all the moulding, gilt and classical statues. More about Garrick Theatre
