You get more than a 99 flake at The Icecreamists, a temporary ice cream boutique in Selfridges' Ultralounge space on the lower ground floor. Taking the creamy ice cold dessert beyond its traditional format and transforming it from something sticky for pudding, ice cream becomes the main ingredient for cryogenic cocktails, cream tease and, err... cucumber sandwiches. Taking a tip from Heston Blumenthal, cocktails are made with liquid nitrogen - ask for the ice cream cocktail if you want to experience their signature drink. In the hands of The Icecreamists, the super chilled dish isn't limited to sweet flavours, you can get a cucumber sandwich a la knickerbockerglory. The message from Icecreamist founder Matt O'Connor (the man who dreamt up the UK's first National Ice Cream Week in June this year) is, "If you thought you knew ice cream, think again."About Selfridges
Don't be fooled into thinking that this huge department store is simply a Mecca for commercialism and shopaholics. Selfridges has a truly fascinating history that supports its excellent reputation for providing a huge range of high quality goods. Emphasising the ethos that "shopping should be fun", the stores original founder, US entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge, defined the shop's hands-on, theatrical image that has endured since its opening in 1909.
