In Search of Classical Greece: Travel Drawings of Edward Dodwell and Simone Pomardi
THIS EVENT ENDED ON THE 28TH APRIL 2013
Nearby

A selection of 70 highly finished watercolours, sepia drawings and pen-and-ink sketches by the classical scholar Edward Dodwell and the Italian artist Simone Pomardi are grouped together in an exhibition that examines the motivation for travel as well as its cultural consequences. Inspired by the journey the pair made through Greece in 1805-6 during the age of Enlightenment, these intriguing travel drawings range from beautiful rural landscapes to the striking antiquities of Greece, and include five vast panoramas measuring up to four metres in length.
