One of the season's most intriguing international tours to visit Shakespeare's Globe is the Footsbarn production of 'Indian Tempest'. The Footsbarn theatre company's home is in Auvergne, in rural France, but they travelled to Portugal to spend three intensive months creating this new imagining of the Bard's classic as part of the European Capital of Culture 2012 programme. The theatre company has deep set roots in Kerala, so musicians, actors and technicians travelled from across Europe and India to assist in the creation of this vibrant theatrical merging of the two continents. Set on a timeless imaginary island, the play revolves around themes of power and decline, forgiveness and regret and calls upon the richness of Indian poetry and culture.
