International Friendly: England v Mexico

England's friendly match against Mexico at Wembley will offer fringe players a last-ditch chance to force their way into Fabio Capello's squad ahead of this summer's World Cup in South Africa. The game takes place one week before Capello names his final 23-man squad and is England's penultimate World Cup warm-up match, with the provisional squad set to fly out to Austria for a pre-tournament training camp which includes a final fixture against Japan in Graz on 30th May. Given the nature of the turf at Wembley, the Italian manager will no doubt rest his prized assets so as to avoid any unnecessary injuries before the tournament. Mexico are unbeaten so far this year and could well feature Arsenal's young forward Carlos Vela in their starting 11, as well as Manchester United new boy Javier Hernandez. Interestingly, Mexico will take part in the World Cup's opening match when they play hosts South Africa at Johannesburg on 11th June. It's hard to imagine the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium being sold out for a friendly clash so close to a major tournament - but with tickets cheaper than usual, England fans may well gather to send off their team in style.
