Inventing ImpressionismA "a superb exhibition in every respect" (The Guardian) Inventing Impressionism at the National Gallery is a tribute to art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, of whom Moet said 'Without him, we wouldn't have survived'. Exploring how one of painting's best loved movements owes much of its success to one man, the display of "sensationally beautiful" works is also "enduringly radical" (Guardian). Featuring more than 85 key works, including a number of Impressionism's greatest masterpieces from the likes of Monet, Pissarro, Degas and Renoir, the exhibition lifts the lid on Durand-Ruel, who immediately bought the works of these artists when they were still widely ignored or ridiculed.

About National Gallery

The National Gallery dominates London's Trafalgar Square with its neo-classical columns and portico designed by William Wilkins adjoining the square on its east side where it has been pedestrianised. Some of the finest examples of European art, ranging from 1260 to 1900, are included among the 2,300 paintings filling its halls and rooms. More about National Gallery
