Islington Dance Festival is bursting with life and it's bursting onto the dance scene by shaking up the streets of Islington with its vibrant, eclectic mix of styles. Taking place at Union Chapel and other venues including The Shaw Theatre and St Luke's Community Centre, the festival is directed by international choreographer Daniel Vais with a particular emphasis on everyone being able to engage with and enjoy dance. Vais has been inspired by the talent and spirit of working with students who have special needs and they are among the groups catered for by the festival's workshops and events. Performance highlights include Elena Giannotti at Union Chapel in One girl B.A.N.D (6th July), an evening of improvised short solos, and - also at Union Chapel - The Dancers (7th July), a triple bill of solo works focussed on discovering and freeing the body's potential using ancient and modern forms, including a specially choreographed piece by Vais called Moon Dance.
