Directing this new production of Julius Caesar is choreographer Michael Keegan-Dolan, who returns to ENO at the London Coliseum with his own Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre - described as "one of the most daring and highly original dance theatre companies in the world" by The Times. This is the first time Handel's best known opera has been staged by the ENO since 1979 and Keegan-Dolan has assembled a fine cast of singers, led by American countertenor Lawrence Zazzo in the title role and Chicago-born soprano Anna Christy - who starred as Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor two years ago - as Cleopatra. Baroque expert Christian Curnyn, conducts. If the Fabulous Beast choreographer's previous reviews are anything to go by, we can expect opinions to be divided -  his previous controversial interpretation of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring for ENO had the critics polarised, with one (Edward Seckerson in The Independent) saying, "You'll never look at a bull terrier in quite the same way again."

About London Coliseum - English National Opera (ENO)

London Coliseum is a magnificent historic building and an excellent venue in which to enjoy the soaring sounds and high drama of some truly thrilling operas. This impressive theatre, which started its life as a venue for variety shows, is now - conversely - indistinguishable from its artistically first-class company in residence, the English National Opera.
