Jutland 1916: WWI's Greatest Sea BattleA hundred years after World War One the National Maritime Museum reflects on the largest naval battle of the conflict: the Battle of Jutland. On 31st May 1916, the North Sea bore witness to 'Der Tag', a major clash between the British Grand Fleet and the German High Seas Fleet. With input from the grandson of Admiral Sir John Jellicoe, the Commander of the British Grand Fleet, Jutland 1916: WWI's Greatest Sea Battle recalls the battle and what it was like to be on board British and German warships - 25 of which ended up on the seabed. Using paintings, photographs, ship models and plans, sailor-made craft work, medals and eyewitness accounts, visitors can relive the battle and learn the effects of its aftermath.

About National Maritime Museum

Located in the heart of Greenwich, the National Maritime Museum has a monumental mission: to showcase mankind's association with the sea. The collection dates back to 1823 when a National Gallery of Naval Art was established, and the museum is housed in an elegant building which used to be an asylum.
