Recent figures put the number of post offices closures at 2,500 in just 18 months and the Post Office on Wilton Way in Hackney was among them. Now it has been given a new purpose, albeit temporarily, with the former Post Office becoming Posted, a temporary art space directed and curated by Julia Royse (co-curator of Jay Jopling's White Cube Mason's Yard for eight years). Kicking things off is Keep Me Posted, an exhibition featuring multi disciplinary works by established artists including Tracey Emin and Rachel Whiteread alongside emerging young talent. All of the various pieces are united by the theme of celebrating a time when the General Post Office was a powerful and important institution. Like all the exhibitions at Posted, Keep Me Posted aims to explore our postal heritage while inspiring people to put pen to paper again. A timely reminder that putting pen to paper can be far more personal than hitting 'reply to all'.About Posted
Posted is a temporary exhibition space in a former post office in East London and is one of a series of projects funded by Hackney Council as part of its programme of support for town centres by bringing vacant premises, such as empty shops, back into use. More about Posted
