Royal Opera & Shakespeare's Globe: L'OrmindoChristopher Cowell's English translation of L'Ormindo, a co-production between Shakespeare's Globe and The Royal Opera, returns to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse after its successful debut during the playhouse's inaugural season. Francesco Cavalli's Baroque opera comedy about a sex-starved queen and her would-be lovers is staged in the small, candlelit Jacobean indoor theatre, an ideal setting for this intimate opera performed by nine singers and eight musicians. The world of jealous lovers, elopement and the intervention of Fortune and Destiny is brought to life as "Gods descend through the ceiling, and Amidas is conned into believing that spirits erupt through the floor" (The Guardian). Conduced by Baroque specialist Christian Curnyn.

About Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

This replica of the Shakespeare's 16th century theatre, reconstructed just 200 yards from its original site, is the brainchild of American actor and director Sam Wanamaker. Built in wood and thatch, using techniques from 400 years ago, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre opened in 1996. More about Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
