Ian Broudie's Lightning Seeds perform at Cadogan Hall for the only London date on their small low-key UK Easter Tour. The Liverpudlian quartet released their first album in a decade last summer to mark their return to the fold as Broudie put his producing work on hold to take again to the stage. Although rather melancholic in tone, Four Winds garnered positive reviews from the critics, with The Guardian concluding: "This is gorgeous stuff, straddling the divide between sombre and beautiful with an easy grace." It's a sad indictment for Broudie's songwriting talents that the Lightning Seeds will be best remembered by many for their football-themed single Three Lions, performed with comedians Frank Skinner and David Baddiel ahead of the European Championships and World Cup in 1996 and 1998. But their mid-90s albums Jollification and Dizzy Heights contained glorious, feel-good, three-minute, catchy nuggets of pop that put a smile on so many people's faces. Here's hoping the Broudie bunch give Pure, The Life of Riley, Lucky You, Perfect and Marvellous a fair airing alongside their newer material inside the airy concert hall.About Cadogan Hall
Cadogan Hall opened its doors on 18th June 2004 with a surprising lack of fanfare. The former Church of Christ Scientist is now the home of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the least elitist of London's major orchestras. The sheer walls and steep barrelled roof of the 900-seat auditorium give it a great acoustic: crisp, clear and VERY loud. More about Cadogan Hall
