Little Shop of HorrorsAssistant florist Seymour is broke, shy and hopelessly in love when a chance discovery seems to change his luck. The exotic plant he discovers can offer fame and fortune - so long as he's prepared to satisfy its craving for fresh blood...Clive Rowe stars as the R'n'B-singing, carnivorous space plant in Little Shop of Horrors, a gloriously retro, tongue-in-cheek spoof of 1950s B-movie horror, on tour at the New Wimbledon Theatre. The plot is endlessly mad while the cartoon-y characters bring a panto feel to the show, but this all makes for a rollicking night out. The cast rises brilliantly to the challenge; the rocking three-girl chorus brings us the lowdown from the streets, Sylvester McCoy is the hapless boss and Alex Ferns - aka Trevor in Eastenders - brings that relishing evil streak to the role of sadist-dentist Scrivello, but it is Clare Buckfield who steals the show as the sexy, bubble gum-dizzy Audrey. The songs are by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken - most famous for Disney classics The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin - and, in between the jazzy numbers, the music does delve into that Disney-esque sweetness, adding to the shiny veneer. Underneath, the darker elements make it a bit too scary for younger kids but its blend of mild terror and exaggerated humour is entertaining stuff.

About New Wimbledon Theatre

New Wimbledon Theatre opened in 1910 and is housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building. Its opening production was the pantomime 'Jack and Jill' and The Times gave it a glowing review - "For beauty and size Wimbledon Theatre would not disgrace Shaftesbury Avenue".
