Arguably the most appealing and popular of the Olympic sports is Athletics, which features 2,000 athletes running, walking, jumping and throwing in the pursuit of medals. Although classified as a single sport, there are 47 separate events in the London 2012 Athletics programme, most of which will be fought out in the Games' main stage, the Olympic Stadium. The Olympic track, field and combined events will take place in the Stadium from Friday 3 August until Saturday 11 August, while two events take place outside the Stadium on the streets of central London, both finishing on The Mall: the Marathon (women's on Sunday 5 August; men's on Sunday 12 August) and the Race Walk (women's 20km on Saturday 4 August; men's 20km and 40km on Saturday 11 August). The first event to take place in the Olympic Stadium is the men's 400m Hurdles heats (Friday 3 August) and the last is the men's 5,000m final on Saturday 11 August. The race which will have the whole world glued to their TV screens is, of course, the men's 100m final starring the fastest human being on the planet, the Jamaican Usain Bolt, which takes place on Monday 6 August.
