Although London 2012 has a special custom-made Basketball Arena in the Olympic Park, the new venue will only host the preliminary rounds and the women's quarter-finals before the crucial knock-out and medal games move to a larger stage at the North Greenwich Arena. The Basketball Arena, located in the north of the Olympic Park by the Olympic Village, will be in use from Saturday 28 August until Tuesday 7 August, before the focus shifts to the North Greenwich Arena from Wednesday 8 August until Saturday 12 August. One of the most popular sports in the world, Men's Basketball made its Olympic debut at the Berlin 1936 Games, with the Women's event introduced at Montreal 1976. Professional players have been allowed to compete since Barcelona 1992 - when the famous US 'Dream Team' won gold in the men's event. The USA are the reigning champions in both the men's and women's event after double success in Beijing 2008.About London Olympics: North Greenwich Arena
