The Olympic men's and women's Mountain Bike races take place at Hadleigh Farm in Essex on the final weekend of London 2012. Located to the east of London, Hadleigh Farm boasts a mixture of woodland, pastures and hilly terrain that makes the newly constructed challenging London 2012 course ideal for cross-country mountain bike racing. The sport made its debut in the 1996 Atlanta Games and has grown in popularity since. There are no heats - just one race, which usually lasts around an hour and 45 minutes; all the riders start together and the first man or woman to cross the line takes gold. France's Julien Absalon will be going for a hat-trick after winning the gold medal for the men's race in both 2004 and 2008.About London Olympics: Hadleigh Farm
Event: Mountain BikeThe scenic Hadleigh Farm in Essex will host the Olympic Mountain Bike competition for London 2012. Owned by the Salvation Army, Hadleigh Farm covers a 550-acre site which boasts wonderful grassland and woodland, some fantastic gradients conducive for a technically challenging course, and a stunning backdrop in the shape of the 700-year-old ruins of Hadleigh Castle and the Thames Estuary.
