Lowry and the Painting of Modern LifeCriticised in the past for neglecting his work (most vocally by Sir Ian McKellen), Tate Britain dedicates a solo show to LS Lowry, the Lancashire painter who documented life in Britain in the industrial age. Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life, one of the highlights of Tate Britain's 2013 season, will run from June to October bringing around 80 works to London in an exhibition which, "aims to re-assess Lowry's contribution as part of a wider art history".

About Tate Britain

Overlooking the River Thames, Tate Britain was originally founded through the philanthropy of the sugar magnate Sir Henry Tate. The Tate legacy now encompasses three other galleries around the UK, including Tate Modern also in London. Dedicated to showcasing Britain's artistic talent, Tate Britain is home to the greatest collection of British art from 1500 to the present day. More about Tate Britain
