Quite what Madonna - aged 50 - is doing calling her 2008 world tour Sticky & Sweet is anyone's guess. It apparently has something to do with her suggestively-titled last album Hard Candy, but to us it sounds like something you'd find down a dodgy Amsterdam backalley rather than at the O2 Arena. The Queen of Pop's tour was seen by more than two million fans in 58 cities last year, sweeping aside records as she has done throughout her stellar career. But with her much-publicised split from Guy Richie putting a damper on her UK concerts in 2008, Madge has added on an additional European leg, including these two London shows, in what is already the biggest grossing tour in history for a solo artist. Expect a raft of recent material, plus the whole back-catalogue of former classics. These will no doubt be sung by an energetic Madonna, surrounding by topless hulks and gyrating in nothing more than a leotard, splitting her legs way too far apart for a lady of her mature age. Heck, she might even kiss another soon-to-be-washed-up female singer while calling up a Malawian ophanage in the process. Who knows? Who cares? Support will come from dance music titan, Paul Oakenfold, who has a strong pedigree remixing tunes from the likes of tonight's headliner. This time round, he'll be testing out new material from his Pop Killer album. Actions speak louder than words, Paul. We dare you...About The O2 Arena
The centrepiece of the newly redeveloped Millennium Dome is the O2 Arena, the first purpose-built music venue in London. With a capacity of 23,000, it is already offering the rather soulless Wembley Arena some serious competition. Big name acts such as The Rolling Stones, The Killers, Justin Timberlake, Girls Aloud and Tina Turner have performed on stage, with the likes of Beyonce, AC/DC, Kings of Leon and Britney Spears set to appear in 2009.
