Man Drake: Anatomia PublicaPart of the London International Mime Festival, this 55 minute piece tells the story of a soldier who, having been presumed dead, returns home to find his wife has remarried, a narrative loosely based on true events. Dancers employ jerky movements and nervous spasms in a way that makes the piece appear almost cinematic, a deliberate attempt to evoke filmmaker Martin Arnolds work on mechanical breakdowns, jolts and short-circuits. Composer and founder of The Man Drake Company, Tomeo Vergés, says of the piece: Anatomia Publica isnt about looking for what goes on inside the body, but rather what is brewing beneath the visible surface of our actions. Just as the scalpel cuts opens flesh to reveal the innards, deconstructing and decomposing body movement uncovers the layers that compose action. This is Man Drakes first appearance in the UK and will include a post-show talk at the Barbican on 23 January. Age recommendation 12+
