Masterpiece a Month: Presiding Genius

To celebrate its 200th year the Dulwich Picture Gallery has pulled off a real coup with an extraordinary year-long international loan exhibition. Masterpiece a Month: Presiding Genius does exactly what it says on the tin: every month a masterpiece from a major institution around the world will be on display in star position at the end of the Sir John Soane-designed museum's enfilade. That means visitors can get their fix of Velazquez, Vermeer, Rembrandt or Hockney flown in especially from revered collections such as the Prado in Madrid, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Uffizi in Florence and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The first purpose-built public art gallery in England, the splendid neo-classical DPG has been described by The Sunday Telegraph as "the most beautiful small art gallery in the world".
