MedeaHelen McCrory stars in the title role in Carrie Cracknell's production of Medea, the Euripides' tragedy, adapted by Ben Power for the National Theatre. Medea is faced with separation from the children she has had for her husband, who has abandoned her and so enacts a dreadful revenge. Director Carrie Cracknell had a hit earlier in the year at the National Theatre's Shed with Blurred Lines, and last year she not only made her West End debut with A Doll's House but also directed her first opera, a well-received Wozzeck for ENO. McCrory, who has appeared in The Queen, Skyfall and the Harry Potter franchise, has been seen regularly on the London stage including a recent appearance in 'The Last of the Haussmans' at the National two years ago prompting Michael Billington to write, "it is Helen McCrory who really carries the evening".

About National Theatre: Olivier Theatre

The largest of the National Theatre's three auditoriums, the Olivier Theatre lends itself to grand spectacles staged by the National. The imposing theatre on the South Bank is the spiritual centre of London's theatreland, and the heart of the British theatrical tradition. More about National Theatre: Olivier Theatre
