This winter, English National Opera will be showing the first-ever UK staging of Charpentier's dramatic full-scale opera 'Medea'. One of the most disturbing of all the Greek myths, Medea delves into a troubling world of a barbarian sorceress who has been banished, betrayed and besieged. Feeling lost and desperate, she uses witchcraft to poison her faithless lover and anyone he holds dear to him even those who are also dear to her. Opera director David McVicar returns to the ENO to take on this thrilling piece that, with its daring and psychological complexity, was incomparable to anything of its day.
About London Coliseum - English National Opera (ENO)
London Coliseum is a magnificent historic building and an excellent venue in which to enjoy the soaring sounds and high drama of some truly thrilling operas. This impressive theatre, which started its life as a venue for variety shows, is now - conversely - indistinguishable from its artistically first-class company in residence, the English National Opera.
