Learn the basics of meditation while enjoying this free village fete in one of London's best hidden green spaces. A community day of picnics and prizes for friends and family, Meditation in the Park is based on a traditional village fete - complete with stalls and activities - but with a spiritual focus. Activities start at midday, last around 20 minutes and run concurrently throughout the afternoon. They include a variety of workshops and stalls including meditation and yoga activities, flower arranging, smoothie making for children, cheese making demonstrations, arts and crafts, masterclasses with renowned local teacher Guru Kaur, fruit meditations and nature tours. There is even a competition for the best picnic on display, which will be awarded after a group meditation finale at around 3.30pm. Besides the magical venue and all the intuitive classes and interactive activities, the best thing about this Sunday afternoon event is that it is completely free and there is nothing to purchase. Russia Dock Woodland won a prestigous Green Flag award in 2011. Following the closure of the Rotherhithe docks in the 1970s, the Rotherhithe Peninsula was redeveloped by the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC). In 1980 Russia Dock, originally a dock used for importing timber from Norway, Russia and Sweden, was in filled and planted as native grass areas for recreational activities, and a series of water channels and ponds providing habitats for kingfishers and herons.
