Merge FestivalThe Merge Festival is an annual celebration of art, performance and music held at various venues in the Bankside area. For just over a month, Illuminate Productions curate a series of performances, events and happenings which draw on the rich heritage and contemporary culture of the area. At last year's festival Alex Chinneck hit the headlines with his upside down building and in 2014 he's back, this time creating a life size house out of 8,000 wax bricks. Head to 40 Southwark Street, SE1 9HP, to see the life size building melt to the ground during the festival. Look out for artistic happenings in unusual venues and performances on The Riverside Stage by the Millennium Bridge showcasing live music and promoting original song writing. Eyes down for Candy Chang's psychological questions stenciled onto pavements, and you'll need to call on all your senses for Bompas and Parr's installation which addresses this year's festival theme of art and science. Even better, the vast majority of exhibitions and events are free.
