"Burlesque has returned with a vengeance" proclaimed The Stage last year in the same breath as heaping lashings of praise on Polly Rae's act. Back at the Leicester Square Theatre, Polly Rae and Her Hurly Burly Girlys combine "ebullient choreography with cheeky comedy and a generous helping of tease" (The Stage). Miss Polly says she takes her inspiration from burlesque and Hollywood stars of the 40s and 50s, bringing back the glamour of that bygone era with extravagant costumes and showy vocals. Add a crazy crowd of special guests including comedy cabaret duo Frisky and Mannish and you've got a twirly-whirly, on-the-edge-of-naughty, tongue in cheek show.
About Leicester Square Theatre
In 2002 this compact, 350 seater opened with Taboo, Boy George's musical trawl through Thatcher's 80s and his own turbulent career, a production that ran for well over a year. The Leicester Square Theatre seems to have succeeded in carving out a niche for itself amongst the many grand Edwardian playhouses and cavernous auditoriums of London's Theatreland.
