Missionaries and Idols in Polynesia at the Brunei Gallery within SOAS documents the London Missionary Society from 1792 to 1825, showing its formation to its initial 'success' in Polynesia. The missionaries were the first Europeans to follow the European explorers of the 18th century into the South Pacific, with the aim of bringing the word of the Bible to all people. The exhibition brings together historical graphics and archives, as well as artefacts that the missionaries brought back and objects that have not been on public display since the 19th century.
