The prospect of both Monster Magnet and Karma to Burn playing under the same roof in one sitting is enough to set the pulses of any true stoner rock fan soaring. Just one month after Clutch graced Koko with their presence, Dave Wyndorf's Monster Magnet top the billing as part of the New Jersey psychedelic space rockers' UK tour. Having burst into the mainstream with 1998's imperious Powertrip, MM built up a faithful UK following on the back of some awesome performances on the summer festival circuit. Wyndorf had a brush with death after overdosing on prescription drugs in 2006 but came back strong (although much heavier) with the band's seventh album 4-Way Diablo. Support comes from West Virginian "malternative" trio Karma To Burn, back together for a US and European tour after disbanding a couple of years ago. The instrumentalist desert rockers are a warped mixture of Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age - but without any vocals, just heavy, heavy guitar riffs. Oddly, they don't name their songs, just give them numbers such as 'Twenty', 'Thirty Two' or 'Five'. For most people, this line-up will mean nothing; for those in the know, it could well be Koko's most rocking night of the year.
