One of London's longest running comic outings, NewsRevue started out way back in 1979. The premise is simple; two boys and two girls take to the stage for a satirical look at the week's news. The formula's been done before and since (Weekending, That was the Week That Was and Have I Got News for You etc), but Newsrevue is live four nights a week. Its staying power is testament to the excellent writing and talented performers. The topical nature of the show and ever-changing carousel of performers and writers has meant it has stayed really fresh. The venue is fantastic too; the Canal Cafe Theatre sits atop The Bridge House, a delightful pub bang in the middle of the canals and barges of Little Venice.About Canal Cafe Theatre
Located above the The Bridge House pub in Little Venice, the Canal Cafe Theatre offers a selection of comedy and new writing in a cosy setting. Visitors cluster around candle-lit tables and yes, you can bring drinks into the auditorium. Up to 14 performances a week are shown here, and the Canal Cafe is also home to NewsRevue, which holds the Guinness Word Record for the world's longest running live comedy show.
