| Ursula Martinez loves to shock: she toured for three years with a show that had her parents naked onstage, she's had a successful act called 'Curing Homosexuality' and is a key member of the Duckie cabaret troupe who make the Royal Vauxhall Tavern such a terrifying place to be on a Saturday night. She's also an expert in getting the audience thoroughly involved in her shows, manipulating them into becoming a part of a tightly scripted plot. In this latest piece, she's inviting us to an office party in the Barbican's Pit Theatre. The other performers include actors, musicians, circus acts and, inevitably, a photocopier, and the whole Bacchanal is directed by The Mighty Boosh's Cal McCrystal. Duckie's Christmas parties at the Barbican have been a riot for the last couple of years, and while this is a rather more ambitious project, it should be great fun. As with all audience participation shows, it will probably be a lot slicker later in its run - though the first couple of nights will have a really unpredictable edge that might also be entertaining. |
