Our favourite pancake place in the whole of London, Where the pancakes are, is the obvious choice for Shrove Tuesday. Pancake loving owner Patricia Trijbits has assured us there will be space and flipped batter for everyone. You can't book, it's walk-ins only, so it's best to get there early to enjoy perfect pancakes served all day in the restaurant and street style in the large Alpine cabin in Flat Iron Square a lemon's throw from the restaurant under the arches. It's five years since the pancake specialist started as a pop up on Regent's Canal in Hackney and to celebrate they're putting on a three legged pancake race, challenging participants to flip pancakes while tied to a friend. There's no need to book for the races, just turn up with trainers and a willing partner to win free pancakes and bubbles. They're also served a special pancake day menu including the American - three pancakes with maple syrup and blueberries or bananas, streaky bacon, halloumi or sausage - one of their most popular dishes.
About Where the Pancakes Are
The brainchild of Dutch woman Patricia Trijbits, popular pop-up and street food trader Where The Pancakes Are can now be found in Flat Iron Square near Borough Market from in its first bricks and mortar home. Sweet, savoury and gluten free pancakes come in many guises from breakfast buttermilk stacks to savoury feasts and Dutch babies - a sweet Yorkshire pudding-style pancake cooked in a skillet.
