Paul Durcan: Life is a DreamThis St Patrick's Day, the work of Irish poet and "charismatic performer" (The Guardian) Paul Durcan is celebrated at the Poetry Library at Royal Festival Hall. Raise a pint of the black stuff to "one of the few genuinely popular poets of recent decades" who, according to The Guardian "would probably win" the prize for the best reader of one's own poems, "hands down" - if there were such a thing. Speaking of Durcan's 'Life is a Dream: 40 Years Reading Poems, 1967-2007', published to great acclaim in 2009, Seamus Heaney said, "Durcan's copious bitter-sweet clowning is a way of telling the truth slant".

About The Poetry Library

The most comprehensive and accessible collection of poetry from 1914 in Britain, The Poetry Library within the Southbank Centre contains 90,000 items and is still growing. The Arts Council collection consists mostly of poetry from the UK and Ireland, a large selection from English-speaking countries worldwide, poetry in translation, poetry by and for children but also rap and concrete poetry.
