Have you heard the one about the Indian comedian doctor? Curry along now, it'll have you in stitches? Paul Sinha's had a lot of this kind of thing and it's no surprise seeing that he's almost certainly the only gay Bengali GP stand-up in the village. At his straight friends' weddings, Sinha says, he's always put next to "the other gay man" at the reception: "And it's left to me to thank him for conducting such a nice service." Being a gay Hindu might put him "just below a leper, just above somebody who doesn't understand cricket" but if truth be told, football-loving, beer-swigging Sinha is "about as camp as a tax return" (The Times) and would make Simon Amstell look like a raving queen in comparison. Here, Sinha brings his smart, articulate and thought-provoking routine to the Southbank's E4 Udderbelly for an evening of intelligent and provocative humour. Sinha may say that he's for people who think comedy should be "chubby and brown" as opposed to Chubby Brown, but there's so much more to this "thoughtful and complex" (The Times) act. "Sinha is the master of the killer punchline, combining impeccable timing and multi-layered anecdotes in a non-stop flow of wit and self-deprecation," says The Stage - and who would disagree? Well, his patients for starters - but you get the picture.About Southbank Centre
The Southbank Centre is a classic example of brutal 60s concrete architecture. Everyone has an opinion (usually negative) on its distinctive design - famous detractors include Prince Charles, who once described it as looking like a "nuclear power station". Yet, if the The West End is the centre of popular culture in London, it is the Southbank Centre that is the centre of true excellence in the arts. More about Southbank Centre
