Location Map of Pompeo Batoni (1708 - 1787)

Three hundred years after his birth Roman painter Pompeo Batoni is celebrated in an exhibition of his work - the first in forty years. Regarded as Italy's last old master, he was much imitated at the time and remains highly significant. His portraits are among the most memorable artistic accomplishments of the period. But he also depicted religious, mythological and historical scenes, securing his status as Rome's most sought-after painter. Works include never previously publicly exhibited paintings as well as newly discovered and recently restored works.
